COBRA-II (Covert Over Barrier Recon Assistant
- II
Sage is under contract to the Night Vision Laboratory
of the US Army to increase the sensor capability
of the original COBRA unit. This will be accomplished
by replacing the high resolution thermal imaging
camera of 320x240 resolution (the COBRA 1-1 existing
variant) with a very high resolution camera of
a 640x480 resolution. The new camera will increase
COBRA’s resolution by a factor of 4. It is also
planned to replace the Low Light Level video camera
by an Image Intensifier Camera or be a Short Wave
IR camera. Different housing and power configurations
are necessary for these different combinations.
A set of three high resolution thermal imaging
cameras are being evaluated.
Contractual development of the COBRA 2 will continue
until the end of the 3rd quarter of 2008. Commercialization
efforts will continue until the end of 2008 and
production is expected to start in early 2009.

Projected Variations
COBRA-1-1 – LWIR (320x240) + VIDEO
COBRA 2-1 – LWIR (640x480) + VIDEO (FUTURE)
COBRA 2-2 – LWIR (640x480) + SWIR (FUTURE)

All COBRA-hood sensors are stand alone sensors
(ADDER has embedded transmitter) With the addition
of the Highly Integrated Sensor Sharing System
(HISSS) components, Sage sensors are integrated
into a sensor sharing network The HISSS transmitter
component can be added and transferred as necessary
to/from any COBRA-hood sensor.
